OKR ARTS CLUB: A YEAR IN OBJECTS
was collaboratively created by the directors
of F.A.T. Studio CIC and illustrator and
designer Tommy Brentnall. This hand-made
book documents the first year of activity at
Old Kent Road Arts Club – a community-focused
project space running from a vacant shop
in South East London. The book brings together
objects, voices, stories and snippets from the
club, painting a picture of an evolving community
project in the heart of London.
Books on Pedagogy ran a series of workshops
with participants of OKR Arts Club, based on the
educational theory of ‘Object Based Learning’.
Used predominantly within art school contexts,
Object Based Learning argues that objects are
powerful educational tools; suggesting they can
provide active learning experiences that engage
learners, enrich learning and energise teaching.
The outcomes of these workshops took the form
of reflective essays, peppered throughout the
publication; bringing together the voices, stories
and objects to collectively tell the story of an eclectic
year at the club.
